Triathlon is a sport that offers many options with its variations (swimming, cycling and running) that turns increasingly interested participants to diversify their training and quality of life.

As the possibilities continue to be tested, they can cover anyone who wants to practice – including their biotype, training time, strength and various activities.

Within the conventional range, which follows an order of changes and where there are no interruptions, as compatitions are categorized into five styles.

1. SPRINT (ou Short)

They are part of a Sprint Triathlon race 750m of swimming, 20km of cycling and 5km of running.

An Olympic triathlon has 1.5 km of swimming, 40 km of cycling and 10 km of running, this means that a Sprint (or Short) is half of an Olympic race, as well as being very suitable for those starting in sport.

2. OLYMPIC (ou Standard)

The Standard (or Olympic) distance consists of 1500 m of swimming, 40 km of cycling and 10 km of running.

It takes its name because it is recognized by the International Olympic Committee and is practiced in the Olympics since the Games in Sydney in 2000.

A good example of competition where Sprint (or Short) and Standard (or Olympic) styles take place is TRIDAY SERIES, by the same organizer as IRONMAN.


Race disputed in the distances of 3800m of swimming, 180km of cycling and 42,195m of race.

Among the best known are Ironman Hawaii, which takes place on the island of Kona and the Challenge Roth in Germany, which brings together the largest number of athletes in the same event and where the world record for distance was recorded, 7h41min33sec.


Race disputed in the distances of 1900m of swimming, 90km of cycling and 21km of race.

There are currently several competition circuits at these distances.

The number of athletes in half distance events has grown a lot in recent times.

The main circuits are Challenge Half Distance and Ironman 70.3.


Endurance events with distances even greater than IRONMAN exist that even have different competition dynamics and are much more restricted to sports professionals.
